The Small Video Production Guide

Nearly everyone watches TV, but few know how their favorite shows got made. One can watch a house being built, and even if you can't hammer a nail properly (like me) you can get a sense of what's going on.  It's big and out in the open. The process is there for everybody to see.

TV and video production is also a process, but most people never see the process. So here's a guide to what happens, by whom, and when.

If you need to communicate with a Video Producer or one of their associates, this guide can help you speak and understand their language.

How to Use This Guide

I've created this guide in 3 sections to make it easy to use.  They are:

1.)  Quick Reference ...  a quick outline of who does what, and what happens when.

2.)  Expanded Reference ... same material as above only more explanation.

3.)  But Wait ... There's More! ... Detailed information on related subjects.

The Quick Reference and Expanded Reference focus on "Functions" and "Process".
Functions refers to who does what, and Process refers to what happens when.

For examples of the kind of Video Productions referred to in this Guide go here.

This guide does not cover large scale teleproductions or feature films, but there are similarities. See "But Wait ... There's More!".

Many thanks to members of the CreativeCow - Business and Marketing community for their valuable comments and input to this guide; in particular to Nick Griffin, Ron Lindeboom, JNeo25, and Mark Suszko.
